The seemingly 'hermetically sealed' appearance of the brutalist structure, often perceived as imposing, is artfully recontextualized to align with modern lifestyles while preserving its historical architectural significance. This visionary project transforms the site into a community centre dedicated to the promotion of eco-friendly practices, community engagement, and education. It serves as a vibrant hub where the local community can unite, learn, and actively participate in sustainable living. 'The Sunshine Hive,' or simply 'SHiVE,' will become a bustling, inclusive space accommodating a diverse range of activities and people, supporting personal development, work, health, and social interactions, not just for the township of Sunshine but beyond.

The driving forces behind the conceptualization of SHiVE are the energies of 'water' and 'light.' These elements draw inspiration from the rich historical significance of the site and its previous inhabitants, which are now reflected in the dynamic interior spaces. The 'water,' echoing the flow of the Maribyrnong River that has played a crucial role in the lives of the Aboriginal people for over 9,000 years in the Wurundjeri country, is translated into the flow, hierarchy, and arrangement of spaces within the SHiVE. Similarly, 'light,' with its multifaceted role in the cultural, spiritual, and practical aspects of indigenous lives, is employed to illuminate the once dim interior of the existing building, accentuating key areas such as the entrance, assembly spaces, circulation pathways, meditation zones, and fitness areas. Additionally, both water and light play pivotal roles in enhancing sustainability practices.

Externally, the landscape design adheres to a simplified and linear layout, in harmony with the fundamental design principles of the existing brutalist structure, creating a seamless blend of heritage preservation and sustainable innovation.
